Turning Awareness Into Measurable Impact
Awareness of an issue is great, but actually getting someone to DO something about safety behaviors is even better. Here’s how Penna Powers’ campaigns have influenced measurable results on the road. While these numbers are encouraging, we would never take sole credit for any positive (or negative) crash data, as traffic safety success is a shared responsibility.
In Utah, traffic fatalities dropped 19% since 2021, reaching the lowest point in five years.
64% of people surveyed reported that they changed their behavior after exposure to Penna Powers’ work on Zero Fatalities (the highest behavior change average in five years).
More than 100,000 students participated in Safe Routes Utah activities last year.
By expanding the program into digital tools and statewide outreach, we transformed a regional initiative into a statewide movement.
As of 2025, 48 states, several U.S. territories, and partners attended AASHTO Safety Summits.
We’ve helped plan each Summit and support AASHTO in helping state transportation agencies integrate safe system principles.
Distracted driving crashes hit a five-year low in Ohio in 2025.
Telematics data showed a sustained change in behavior after a distracted driving law went into effect in April 2023. We developed the awareness campaign promoting the “Phones Down” law.

What Agencies Ask Us Most
How do you set up traffic safety partnerships with businesses, non-profits, and community organizations?
A little communication planning goes a long way to form strong partnerships. At Penna Powers, we excel at helping clients establish mutually-beneficial relationships. We’ll support you in organizing meetings, workshops, presentations, or planning sessions. We’ll help you negotiate the details to get up and running toward your common goals.
Where can I find case studies on successful traffic safety campaigns?
At Penna Powers, we live and breathe traffic safety. We’ve been in business for over 40 years, but our real pride is the work we’ve done over the last 20. We’ve created more traffic safety campaigns than anyone else in the Intermountain West. You can find several case studies of our successful traffic safety campaigns in our online portfolio.
How do you evaluate the effectiveness of traffic safety marketing agencies?
If you’re evaluating a marketing agency, look at their track record. At Penna Powers, we tout our traffic safety expertise because of our history of success. One of our most comprehensive efforts is Zero Fatalities. We launched and ran Utah’s Zero Fatalities program for 20 years. We worked on Zero Fatalities programs in Nevada for seven years and Iowa for five years.
How do you create an effective traffic safety awareness campaign?
People who create effective traffic safety campaigns start with good data. Gather data on crashes and contributing factors. Study demographics and behavior. Learn about the community and ask for their input. Make data-driven decisions about messaging and media platforms. Set campaign metrics based on your goals. Evaluate each campaign then incorporate what you learn into the next campaign.
What are the best online platforms to launch a digital safe driving awareness campaign?
The best platforms for digital awareness campaigns depend on your target audience. At Penna Powers, we work to understand the audience you’re trying to reach. We use top-of-the-line industry tools to learn how and where the audience spends time. Whether they’re streaming TV or checking their social media feed, audience data helps us allocate media budgets for the greatest impact.
What are the best practices for traffic safety marketing targeted at teen drivers?
Reaching teen drivers with traffic safety marketing can feel daunting. There are many choices for reaching teens, from paid campaigns to education programs. In Penna Powers’ experience, there is no replacement for in-person outreach. We provide a personal experience with powerful stories about teens just like them. Our presentations leave a memorable and lasting impact on behavior.
